Music at First Church

Music is an integral part of our worship services.  You will enjoy traditional piano at our 8:00am service.  You will rock with the contemporary Praise Team and enjoy the classic sounds of the organ, Sanctuary Choir, and Bell Choir during the 10:00am service.  The FUMC Children's Choir also performs at times throughout the year. We offer special musicians throughout the year at the 10:00am service. To learn how you can become involved contact our Choral Director, Tim Meyer - tim@firstumchurch.org for information about our Classic Service or Matthew Kimmel matthew@firstumchurch.org for information about our Praise Team.

“I will sing to the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being” (Psalm 104:33)!

The Sanctuary Choir participates in the 10:00am service from September to June and presents a wide range of musical styles from classical to country.  Most of the choir members are seasoned veterans, and many of them participate in other singing groups in the community as well as at First Church.

First Church has been privileged to have excellent choral leadership through the years.  Gene Huber, Richard Lapo, Margaret Licon, Carol Whitbeck, and Dan Jackson all brought their particular strengths
and styles to the choir.  The choir is accompanied
by Susie Schell-Dietsch and occasionally Judy Kelts and Margaret Scott.

Tim Myer is our Choral Director who continues our long history of excellent worship music at First Church.

The Sanctuary Choir meets Wednesday nights (Sept.-May) from 7:00 to 8:30 pm in the Sanctuary. Singers age 14 to 104 are welcome to join us at any time during the season.

Contact Tim Meyer to ask questions or become involved.

First Church Joyous Spirits Bell Choir
“Let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise” (Psalm 95:2)!

The Joyous Spirits Bell Choir participates in the Worship on a monthly basis and performs frequently with the Sanctuary Choir.  The addition of the Joyous Spirits adds a brilliant flare, especially to the festive holiday services.  The ensemble includes 10-12 players.  We recently purchased a fourth octave.  This adult bell choir, like the Sanctuary Choir, is made up of committed individuals who love to make beautiful music!

Susie Schell-Dietsch has been the director since 2002.  If you have music experience and can read music (at least a little!), join the group on Monday evenings at 6:30pm in the Sanctuary during the school year.

First Church Praise Singers
“Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise” (Psalm 95:2)!

Our Praise Singers are made up of four to seven vocalists and instrumentalists and lead in worship at the 8:30am Outdoor Worship Service and help lead the 10:00am service.  Rehearsals are held on a weekly basis during the school year, on Wednesdays at 8:00-8:30pm.  Any instrument is welcome, even young players who would like the experience of playing with a group in a presentation setting.  Contact Matthew Kimmel to see how you can become involved.

Special Music
“Do your utmost to present yourself to God approved, a workman who has no cause to be ashamed, correctly interpreting the message of the truth”   (2 Timothy 2:15).

Solos, duets, trios, etc. (instrumental and vocal), are a thrilling way to be involved in the worship of the church.  It is expected that those contributing in this way can prepare on their own, giving God their very best.  By invitation.  Contact the church office 509.663.1607 to discuss your involvement.

Children's Choir
The FUMC Children's Choir sings at special occasions like Christmas and Mother's Day. Watch our newsletter for opportunities for your children!
